At 2:45 on July 5, 1942 the enemy opened fire with all weapons.  At the same time the machine gun operators in the rightmost positions in base 2 noticed movement in the bushes at a distance of about 45 meters in front of the positions. They opened fire with the MG and directly about 10 enemy soldiers stood up and started running straight towards the MG throwing 2 satchel charges near the obstacle. The MG and two nearest light machine guns fell 5 enemies immediately and according to the prisoner 8 men were killed. After failing in this the enemy attacked 50 meters to the right and succeeded in pushing a charge under the obstacle, producing a breach about 6 meters wide. Men with submachine guns prevented the enemy from coming through, after which the enemy, roughly 25 men, retreated. Our heavy mortars fired the barrage “Koivu” at the right time and were accurate. Our own patrol ran after the retreating enemy and took a prisoner, who surrendered voluntarily. During the situation powerful barrage was fired behind the base.
